About Me

Hi! I'm Adele and I am in my second year at the University of Manchester, studying Chemistry. I did my A-Levels in Chemistry, Maths and Biology, all of which I achieved a grade A in. In my GCSEs, I also achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry, Biology, English Language and English Literature, and a grade 8 in Maths and Physics. I have worked as both an in-person and online tutor for over a year and so have experience in working with children and building on their prior knowledge to help them to understand topics that they are struggling with. I also went to a grammar school and sat the 11+ entrance exams so l am familiar with the both the pressure and format of these tests, and so I would be able to help students to be prepared for this stressful time as well.

My Tutoring Style

Through previous experience, I have found that the best way to utilise an hour to understand a topic is to break it down into smaller sections in order to keep the student as attentive as possible throughout and to maximise their knowledge. I would start a lesson with a brief summary of the session ahead, including any key learning objectives that should be understood by the end of it. We would then work through the key points of the topic, pausing for any questions to be asked. I find that the best way to test understanding of a topic is through doing questions, so we would next work through some example questions with increasing difficulty. Then, the student would have a go at doing a similar question themselves to check that they know how to approach this topic in an exam. Finally, I would check back in with the student to see how they found the session, recapping over the main points again and setting a few extra questions to do throughout the next week to solidify their knowledge.
